Lamborghini has introduced its rear-wheel drive Huracàn Spyder in time to preview the supercar before the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show and its 2017 model lineup.

The new LP580-2 Spyder packs the same 5.2-liter V10 engine as the coupe version of the car. This powerplant makes 571 horsepower and just under 400 pound-feet of torque with all of this power being sent to the rear wheels.

Designers had to change the design in the front-end of the car to allow for the loss of 75 pounds in the front axle and for the extra downforce created by the rear-wheel drive setup. The suspension, steering, and electronic stability, and balance have all be re-tuned as well.

The LP580-2 Spyder jumps to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, which is almost a full second slower than Lamborghini’s four-wheel drive LP610-4. The Huracàn Spyder boasts a top speed of 198 mph.

The roof can be retracted at speeds of up to 31 mph, with the process taking 17 seconds to fold in and complete.

Lamborghini has not released a price for the 2017 rear-wheel drive Huracàn Spyder, but the coupe version did cost $37,000 less than the LP610-4’s starting price, so it should be somewhere in that range as well.
