Koenigsegg made one giant leap in its attempt to grow its U.S.-based business at Monterey Car Week with the debut of its first road-legal car for the American market.

The Agera XS, which is an Agera RS with a little name change at the behest of its owner, was placed alongside the Swedish company’s Regera hybrid supercar.

Previously, Koenigsegg didn’t focus on the U.S. market because its cars didn’t meet the strict federal crash safety and emissions standard, meaning models could only be shipped in under a “Show and Display” waiver where the owners had to provide proof that these cars wouldn’t be driven on a regular basis. But now the Swedish brand has decided to head down a path to homologate cars for U.S. buyers.

The Koenigsegg Agera RX features a 5.0-liter, V8 engine that makes an impressive 1,160 horsepower, with all of this power sent through a seven-speed sequential transmission. The Agera also borrows designs and similar parts to Koenigsegg’s One:1, and a weight of only 3,075 pounds. The luxurious hypercar has the ability to rocket down the track or road looking like a fireball thanks to its Karosserie Orange paint job.

The Regera Koenigsegg brought to Monterey features a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, three electric motors, and a state-of-the-art drive system that allows the hybrid hypercar to reach up to 1,500 hp. The Swedish brand plans to make 80 examples for the U.S. market.
