The West Village two-bedroom of the late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has hit the rental market with an asking price of $10,250 per month. Hoffman purchased the home at 35 Bethune St. in 2013 before succumbing to a mixed-drug overdose the next year.

Located in the historic Pickwick House—originally a printing plant, dating back to the late 1800s—the two-bedroom, two-bath apartment includes a great room with brick fireplace, key-locked elevator access, a laundry room, a video intercom, nine oversized windows, oak floors and ten-foot ceilings with exposed wooden beams in its 1,100 square feet of space. Also included in the rental price is a five-day-a-week superintendent.

Just one block east of the Hudson, the apartment was originally listed as a rental in March of 2014 with an asking price of $10,500, eventually falling to $9,995 before being taken off the market and given an extensive renovation.

Renowned for years for his ability as a character actor, Hoffman made the leap to standout leading man with 2005’s Capote, portraying American novelist Truman Capote as he prepared his true crime manuscript In Cold Blood. The role won Hoffman BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globe and Oscar awards for Best Actor. He also worked in theater, earning Tony nominations for his roles in True West, Long Day’s Journey into Night and Death of a Salesman.

Hoffman, who was known for a fearless choice of roles and an ability to bring humanity to unsavory characters, was called “perhaps the most ambitious and widely admired American actor of his generation” in his New York Times obituary.
