Russian billionaire businessman Roman Abramovich has just received approval from New York’s Landmarks Preservation Commission to convert his three NYC townhouses into a single megamansion.

Located at 11-15 East 75th Street, the Herzog & de Meuron design will combine the three upper-east-side townhomes, but the plan is to ensure each property maintains a sense of individuality with each building sporting its own door pediment.

The initial building plan was rejected by NYC’s Department of Buildings, but the new approval allows for the modified restoration of the current façades and the addition of a new garden in place of the rear yard.

The main entrance will be at Number 13 featuring a glazed door complete with mesh metal work. Meanwhile, No. 11 will be restored, and an artist will be hired to design the door for No. 13. The main unifying element is the carefully selected cast iron fence.

Abramovich is the primary owner of the private investment company, Millhouse LLC, and he is also the owner of Chelsea Football Club. In fact, Herzog & de Meuron are handling the design of Chelsea’s new 60,000-seat stadium.
