An iconic guitar touted the “Holy Grail” of Beatles instruments will soon be available. John Lennon’s 1962 Gibson J-160E is set to go under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, Calif., this November.
Estimated to sell for between $600,000 and $800,000 at the Icons and Idols Rock N Roll auction, Lennon’s guitar might very well break a record by outselling Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton’s instruments.
Guitars owned by the famous musician are rare, so watching this 1962 guitar hit the auction is marvelous in and of itself. Extensive documentation verifies that the available guitar was indeed the one Lennon ordered more than fifty years ago.
He actually ordered two identical electric-acoustic hybrids, one of which he gifted to George Harrison. Most music lovers would do almost anything to own the guitar that helped to compose classics like “Please Please Me” and “All My Loving.”
Authenticated in 2014, the incredible musical artifact will go to auction on November 7.
