MINI was at the 2015 Auto Shanghai Show where it showed off new augmented reality glasses that are for use while operating a vehicle.

“MINI augmented vision gives an insight into how intelligent connectivity between a MINI car and eyewear into which relevant content is projected might work in the future,” Jörg Preißinger, project manager of MINI’s augmented vision said.

The goal of the glasses is to increase both comfort and safety by putting everything you need on a head-up display. Things like navigation, parking, miles traveled, or other information is displayed just above the steering wheel, without blocking the driver’s view of the road.

“We are proud to have helped develop a breakthrough augmented reality interface between eyewear and the automobile,” Jay Wright, vice president, Qualcomm Connected Experiences, inc, said. “MINI augmented vision offers a compelling example of what’s possible today, and what we can expect in the future.” Qualcomm Connected Experiences helped MINI create the eyewear.

The glasses are surprisingly stylish, as they look like a cross between expensive sunglasses and racing goggles.
