America is not really known for creating luxury supercars—most supercars come out of Europe. Trion is an L.A.-based startup looking to change that with the Nemesis.

The company is claiming that their car will pump out 2,000 horsepower and reach top speeds of 270 mph. These numbers have yet to be independently tested, but the company will be testing a prototype closer to the end of the year, which should get us some proof of the numbers. Taming a powerful engine is no trivial matter: The Bugatti Veyron’s monstrous 1001-hp W16 engine made soup out of the transmission before they were able to get it right. It will be interesting to see how Trion solve these types of engineering challenges.

Rich Patterson is the company’s founder and has 29 year of experience in the automotive world, mostly in designing interiors, which is why the Nemesis will look pretty sharp on the inside with touchscreen controls and top-of-the-line materials.

Trion plans to launch other designs in the future. They say they have a hybrid and an electric car in the works. We’ll be watching closely.
