Jaguar Land Rover has had a great year. Their profits have been accelerating and Dai Jones, Jaguar Land Rover senior researcher, says the company will invest $5.6 billion in research and development of cutting edge technology for their cars. The Discovery Vision Concept is the fruit of that investment.

A concept integrated with new technology was revealed in the UK, showing off technological features like controls that operate by tracking where the driver is looking. Eye-tracking technology is a first for automobiles.

Jaguar Land Rover is working closely with MIT researchers to further develop this technology to make it viable for commercial use in vehicles. The goal is to create Land Rover and Jaguar cars with clutter free-dashboards. The eye-tracking system will get rid of many of the buttons that currently litter the dash of high-end vehicles. The vehicle will also use gesture controls that will recognize a driver’s hand movements.
