MINI showed off a foldable electric scooter concept called the Citysurfer recently. The electric scooter is designed for the urban environment of the future.

“We’re anticipating that future urban areas might not be as accessible as today,”  Anders Warming, MINI’s head of design, said. “We’re preempting the idea that in the future you might not be able to take your car to very local urban areas.”

Just in case people still drive cars in urban areas in the future, the scooter also folds down to a compact size so it can easily fit in the trunk of a car.

The Citysurfer’s electric motor kicks in when  you get it up to 3.7 MPH. The scooter can reach top speeds of 15 MPH.

“The range is very good for a small object,” Warming said. “It will easily take you to the city centre and back. It will go 25 kilometers on a full charge.”

The Citysurfer is currently just a concept and there are no production plans at this moment.
